Using Caffeinated Content for WordPress Part 1 - Introduction

So you have Caffeinated Content for WordPress but are new to the Search Engine Marketing scene? Perhaps you don’t have Caffeinated Content for WordPress yet and want to see why the fuss is about? Or maybe you have Caffeinated Content for WordPress but don’t have a clue about anything I’m talking about! Don’t feel bad, that’s normally how I am too.

Anyway, this series of posts is going to run through a few different usages of Caffeinated Content for WordPress, along with recommended plugins and other options. Because there are so many possibilities, you may or may not like the scenarios I present…don’t worry though, because of it’s flexibility, Caffeinated Content will happily fill the niche you need it to.  Unfortunately, because of it’s flexibility, Caffeinated Content can seem imposing–don’t worry though, it’s really pretty simple.

Table of Contents:

Part 1 - Introduction (You are here!)
Part 2 - Caffeinated Content’s template system
Part 3 - Building your first niche blog
Part 4 - Building a (gasp!) blog farm
Part 5 - Tying it all together
Part 6 - Monetization options

Before anything, let’s take a look at what Caffeinated Content is.  As it stands, Caffeinated Content for WordPress is the premier content generation plugin for WordPress.  Yes, I know, bold statement…but simply put, it does so much more than anything else out there.  There are plugins out there that’ll automatically post RSS feeds, articles, YouTube videos and Yahoo Answers.  None of them, however, can post all of those items, rewrite and translate the text, add links, spit it out according to a template, or pull relevant images to the extent Caffeinated Content can.  Of course they can’t…they’re not Caffeinated Content. ;)  If you haven’t seen Caffeinated Content for WordPress running yet, take a look at my demo video.  It is, admittedly, a bit out of date, but everything still works almost exactly like that.

Okay.  So first, we have to make some decisions.  What is your goal here?  Are you willing to rebel against the Mighty Google a bit or do you want to keep your activities under the radar?  Risk vs. reward definitely applies here, but don’t worry, Caffeinated Content’s flexibility will allow it to work under any circumstances.

Step 1.  Get a domain name and hosting.  Easiest and cheapest to go through GoDaddy, especially if you’re new to the game.  GoDaddy has some ridiculous rules so if you have a little experience, try NameCheap for domain names with free whois privacy (keeps prying eyes off of your private info–especially if you’re not exactly flying under the radar…).  For hosting, Hostgator is a good, safe bet.  Side rant: do not, under any circumstances, use Dreamhost for hosting…you’ll regret it, especially if you want to install many other third-party scripts.

Step 2.  After your domain resolves, let’s install WordPress, the guts behind our operation.  No, this is not a WordPress installation tutorial, there are plenty of those out there already! ;)

Step 3.  Unzip your copy of Caffeinated Content for WordPress.  Upload the CaffeinatedContent folder to your server’s WordPress install under the wp-content/plugins directory.  For the future, though, something to keep in mind: you can edit CaffeinatedContent’s default templates and links.  In fact, not only can you, it is highly recommended!  From there, log into your WordPress installation’s admin area (http://yourblog.com/wp-admin) and take a gander at the plugins tab.  Activate Caffeinated Content for WordPress.  Then, visit the settings tab, and then the Caffeinated Content Settings tab to add your registration info.  Now, Caffeinated Content is all ready to use!

Step 4.  Optional, but recommended things to do:

  1. Download a theme or a few from the WordPress site to beautify your installation.
  2. Find and add some more plugins, also from the WordPress site, to further customize and extend WordPress.
  3. Modify the default links file.
  4. Modify the default templates.  Make multiple templates!
  5. Change the permalinks for your site within your admin interface.

That’s it for this part…check back for Part 2, a quick look at the templating system, in a few days!

Seriously, part two is nearly ready to go…maybe even today, if I can make it a priority.
